New Site Goes Live

If you have found this page, you will no doubt have seen that we have rebranded and have a lovely new website.

Do check out the Online Modules pages … this is a new venture for us and will hopefully allow us to service the freelance markets with training, which has never really been possible to do before this. The aim is to make it easy to fit around busy schedules, where ever you might be in the world and to make the modules small enough, that it is not too expensive for even the most modest businesses.

The Forum

This is an area, where you can ask questions or raise issues you think are worthy for discussion. We will add topics from time to time and will attempt to answer questions or contribute to debate… We encourage debate and thoughtful comments… but please make sure you do make your replies respectful to other users.s

Tips and Tricks

In this area, we will be posting snippets from courses, along with tips and tricks for things you may or may not know….

Colour Spaces…

Did you know that the component video colour space (Y Cb Cr) is about 5x larger than the RGB space used by cameras and monitors… and the old PAL/NTSC colour systems had a space which included colours which were not in either the RGB or Component colour space… All colour spaces are slightly different and that includes the human eye which can see yet more colours which do not appear in any of the traditional colour spaces use by cameras and monitors.

Monitor Overscan

When using an HD monitor, it is always best not to overscan the picture. That way pixels will be mapped from video to screen. Most domestic type sets have a manufacturer specific setting for this…. called, Just Scan, Just, Screen Fit or Full Pixel. Overscan is a hangover from the days of analogue and CRT’s, so is not really relevant anymore, but it is still included on most TV’s as a default!

If you do not remove overscan, you may find the resolution of the screen drops by about 30-40%…!
