Production Processes

Course Description

This course provides an overview of the of the entire production process from idea to aerial. It will develop your knowledge of how a program progresses from conception to commissioning, pre-production planning, acquisition, post-production and finally on to delivery; who does what, as well as how, where and when. It will provide a chance to discuss everything from practicalities and timescales to finance and staffing. It is an ideal starting point for new entrants in both technical and production communities, as well as providing a broad overview for those specialists who do not currently have a good understanding of colleagues roles in more distant parts of the production process.

Course Duration: 2 days.

Course Outcomes

At the end of the course you will understand:

  • How the different stages of the production process work.
  • The jobs and roles which get involved in each stage of the production process.
  • The terminology and jargon which is used to describe people and processes.

Prior Knowledge

This is an introductory level course so does not require any specialist prior knowledge.

  • Assembly of the pre-production team.
  • Acquisition equipment, processes and teams.
  • Archives, databases and collaborative working.
  • Differing post production systems, processes and scales.
  • Traffic and playout systems, delivery processes in the digital age.
  • Convergence… radio, tv, interactive, web, VOD.
