Multi-Camera Studio Lighting

Course Description

The course is suitable for camera operators, vision controllers or technicians working in studios who need to be able to light simple sets. It looks at the basic skills required to light in the multi-camera environment and is both practical and theoretically based. If you want to start developing your skills with an aim of becoming a lighting designer, this is a good place to start.

Course Duration: 3 days.

Course Outcomes

At the end of this course you will be able to

  • Specify equipment, rig and fine set lighting for simple multi camera working in studio.
  • Safely rig or supervise the rigging of lamps.
  • Work confidently on simple shoots.
  • Create a simple plot.

Prior Knowledge

Knowledge and experience of studio production techniques is useful. 

Course Outline

The topics covered will include:

  • Introduction to studio lighting equipment
  • Basic portraiture and interviews 1+1 1+2 
  • Technical and artistic requirements of studio lighting
  • Colour temperature correction and use of colour media
  • Rigging methods and studio safety
  • Intermediate production planning

N.B. More advanced studio lighting courses can be arranged by request. These can be in the form of a course which looks at how to work of large scale production, plan and light larger sets and lighting budgets, work with effects lighting, manage a lighting team and coping with complex requirements. Such training is specialist and bespoke... it could be delivered as a traditional course or as mentoring for those working on real productions.
