Multi-Camera Directing

Course Description

This course is designed to develop the skills of potential studio or OB directors. It will provide a series of planning, scripting and studio directing activities which will develop the leadership and communications skills of the new director.

Course Duration: 5 days.

Course Outcomes

At the end of this course you will be able to:

  • Take an idea and develop it into a working program.
  • Write a script and running order.
  • Brief a crew about your ideas and script.
  • Lead a team through the production process in the studio.
  • Review your own performance and learn from your mistakes.

Prior Knowledge

Although this is an introductory course, it is not intended for beginners. The Director has a key role in leading the team and needs production experience and knowledge prior to having the credibility to take on such a role. It is recommended that any attendee has several years experience of working in studios in another role before undertaking such a course. A broad knowledge of the production process is also essential and therefore it is recommended that all attendees should have attended the Training for TV Production Processes course or similar.

  • The Directors role in the studio.
  • Understanding your crew.
  • Good communications skills and using correct and consistent terminology.
  • Working with unscripted content.
  • Creating a running order.
  • Writing a camera script.
  • Timings and word counts.
  • Managing rehearsal time.
  • Briefing a crew.
