Course Description

A course which will develop editing skills, both from a technical aspect and the art of story telling and program construction. The course can run with any of main editors (Avid, FCP or Premiere), but could also include others (e,g, Cinegy or Edius) by request. 

Course Duration: 5 days.

Course Outcomes

At the end of the course you will be able to:

  • Debate, explain and justify your work.
  • Construct larger program structures.
  • Use effects and tools appropriately and creatively to enhance a story.

Prior Knowledge

This is not a beginners course and those attending should already have basic editing skills and be able to operate the software to 101 level. It is about developing the use of tools and story telling skills, not learning new software.

Course Outline

The topics covered will include:

  • How to discuss and present your ideas and work to a producer and to explain the reasons why you have done something. 
  • How to better understand the story telling process and develop your story telling skills through professional evaluation and self criticism.
  • Sound techniques and devices.
  • Vision techniques ad devices.
  • Motivation - pace, timing, shot choices

The content will be focused to delegates need and could include some or all of the following: 

  • Longer form editing.
  • Effects work 
  • Colour grading
  • Advice about projects and settings.
  • Multi-camera editing techniques.
